Juana Cortes de Torres has been admitted to the New York State Bar for twenty-eight years. She received her undergraduate degree from Fordham University and her Juris Doctorate from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
She gained her professional experience by working for The New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal as a senior attorney in the Administrative Review and Litigation Bureaus.
She worked for the New York State Workers Compensation Board as a conciliator, senior attorney in the General Counsel’s office, and Acting Administrative Law Judge.
In addition, she was the Second Deputy Corporation Counsel for The City of Mount Vernon. where she was counsel to the City Legislature and focused on laws that were drafted for the Municipality and the public hearing process and assisted the Corporation Counsel in matters relating to the Mayor’s office.
She has been in private practice for thirteen years representing clients in a variety of areas including Immigration Law, NYS Workers' Compensation Law, Social Security Law, and the Defense of Foreclosures and Foreclosure mediation. She is an advocate to the Latino community and has been a public, radio and television speaker on the issues of housing, immigration, and workers' rights.
