Immigrants press senators on driver's license bill
Newsday

“There’s no support from our representatives. We feel limited from picking up our children from school and going to work without fear or having a good job,” said Dulce Rojas, senior community organizer with SEPA Mujer, a Patchogue-based group advocating for the rights of Latinas. “Access to standard driver’s licenses will be a benefit for public safety and also economic -- but more than that it is a necessity," Rojas said. "There are people who have been driving with fear for more than 20 years.”

Empowering for Latinas for a better life
The Long Island Advance

They call for information. Lots of it. It could be how to handle a landlord dispute. Or an entrepreneur who needs resources that can aid a new business. Or help in finding a new home. Sometimes the situation is darker. “We got a call from a victim of human trafficking,” said Martha Maffei, executive director of SEPA Mujer, “and we were in the middle, talking to police. They come, too, for shelter and counseling...

Two Hundred Rally in Riverhead for Driver’s Licenses for Immigrants
Long Island Wins

Organizers from SEPA Mujer, CASA, NYCLU and LIISA were delighted yesterday with the large turnout for the start of the Greenlight New York campaign on Long Island. The campaign is pushing for legislation in the state legislature that would allow immigrants to apply for driver’s licenses regardless of their immigration status. Martha Maffei of SEPA Mujer said that local groups worked hard to turn out two hundred supporters of Green Light New York in the East End village. She said that State Senate Bill 1747 would allow immigrants...

Los indocumentados más cerca de conducir legalmente en Nueva York
Univision New York

Desde inicio del 2019, cientos y cientos de manifestantes han llegado a la legislatura del estado de Nueva York en apoyo de que pasen las licencias de conducir para indocumentados. Advocates march in Riverhead to promote equal access to driver’s licenses
Riverhead News-Review

As Dulce Rojas views it, the issue of equal access to driver’s licenses for all residents in New York State is less about immigration that it is about “common sense legislation.” Allowing all New York residents, regardless of immigration status, to apply for a driver’s license would improve public safety, provide a boost to the state’s economy and allow immigrants to navigate their communities without fear, according to organizers of a rally in Riverhead Tuesday afternoon. More than a hundred people marched down Roanoke Avenue to Main Street and then east all the way to Route 58, ending at the Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot, where the group dispersed...
