Stephanie Leon's passion is working with children, families, and individuals to help them overcome traumatic experiences. She believes with support and care everyone can begin to heal and feel empowered. Stephanie was born to immigrant parents who instilled the importance of education. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Old Westbury. Her first job in the social work field was at the Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center. This agency allowed her to help children who suffered sexual, psychological, physical, and neglect. Her position as a Bilingual Family Advocate helped families with resources and support during medical examinations. She helped children when feeling vulnerable, helpless, and scared due to severe trauma. She witnessed how negative experiences affect their mind, body, and soul. She decided to continue her education and graduated with her Master's degree in Social Work from Stony Brook University. Stephanie then worked with S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth Inc an organization that specializes in working with youth in gang violence prevention and intervention. She worked as the Case Manager and would advocate for youth to receive services in schools and precincts as they faced social injustices. She provided therapeutic services and did presentations in schools and in the community to help children avoid gang involvement.
As Stephanie gained more knowledge on a therapeutic level. she began work with Family Service League in the Children and Family Treatment Support Services program. Stephanie provided evaluations, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention to children/youth with behavioral health needs and their families in their homes. She worked with a treatment team to determine and the best treatment for the child. Her mission was to help the child and families develop better communication, reduce symptoms and help them cope with various life challenges to improve their lives. She loves working with children as she believes they’re the future.
Stephanie enjoys helping many and is honored to work with Sepa Mujer as the Victim Assistance Case Manager and Ayuda Latina Hotline Supervisor. Her mission is to bring hope to women and empower them through safety planning, providing resources, and proper mental health care to address trauma.
