Natasha Torres is the youth organizer of Sepa Mujer. Natasha is a first generation American; her father came to this country from Ecuador as a young man, where luckily, her mother was able to help him adjust his status. Natasha grew up knowing how lucky her family was, but she also recognized this is just luck and could see how her other family members and community members in general deserved the same treatment. As the eldest sibling and cousin of her family, Natasha has always played a leadership role with youth. It was because of these experiences that Natasha found that leading underserved youth was her passion. Natasha graduated from Stony Brook University with a bachelors of arts in sociology, with a focus in immigration, and will continue to study to obtain her masters degree in public policy so that she can help offer both direct relief and systematic change to the Latino community.
In her free time, Natasha enjoys reading and playing soccer. These hobbies have shaped her into the person she is today, as she believes reading and access to education is the driving force that can change a child's life. If a child is never exposed to new ideas and taught their rights, it would be very hard for that child to advance into a better person and into a better situation. Additionally, she has seen how playing soccer can offer a sense of community and leadership to people of all ages, and it is vital for developing youth to have these skills, as well as a safe space for them to express themselves.
Natasha is eager to use all of her education, experiences, and skills to lead and inspire young girls to be as successful and happy as they can possibly be.
